Description: 20 colleges/universities and high schools across the country, soon to be 26, operate student-led Campus Kitchens where student volunteers partner with on-campus dining services, local foodservice businesses, farmers and farmers’ markets and community food banks to recover unserved food, create and deliver nutritious meals to low-income children, families and the elderly. CKP also offers culinary job training sessions to unemployed adults with foodservice and life skills while teaching participating college students about hunger, nutrition, food, and business (among other topics). The Campus Kitchens Project is using social media tools for coordination, marketing, and motivating students. Each campus now has a Facebook page and the project is also using blogs, Twitter, and Ning.
