Clearinghouse Staff
The staff of the National Service-Learning Clearinghouse focus on implementing the mission of the Clearinghouse - to enhance educational, tribal, and community-based service programs working to strengthen schools and communities by providing them with timely information and relevant resources on service-learning techniques and methodologies. Each staff member brings unique experience and expertise to help achieve this mission.

Liberty Smith, Associate Director, National Service-Learning Clearinghouse & National Service Resources and Training
Liberty Smith, Ph.D., has served as program manager of Learn and Serve America's National Service-Learning Clearinghouse since September 2006. She is responsible for daily operations including staff supervision and development, fiscal management, marketing, and collaboration with the Director on the creative development of the website and Clearinghouse services. Liberty received her M.A. and Ph.D. from the University of California, San Diego in Literature - Cultural Studies (2003). She continues to conduct research and publish on the relationship between personal relationships, artistic and intellectual collaborations, and political impact in U.S. and Latin American women's and glbt culture. She has taught on these subjects and in composition at UCSD, Southern Connecticut State University, and Quinnipiac University. More recently, she completed a master's degree in library and information science at the University of Wisconsin, Milwaukee (2006) and has provided a range of library services at the San Diego County Public Law Library and UCSD. Liberty holds a bachelor's degree in English and Latin American area studies from Kenyon College (1994).
Erin Lee, Librarian
Erin Lee has served as the public services librarian of Learn and Serve America's National Service-Learning Clearinghouse since January 2010. Erin provides reference and referral services and literature searches; identifies, abstracts, and catalogs materials; and ensures an up-to-date and comprehensive resource collection. Prior to joining ETR, Erin worked as a reference librarian at San Jose State University and West Valley College, where she taught classes on information literacy. She also worked as a marketing and communications program specialist at Cabrillo College. Erin received her master's degree in library and information science from San Jose State University in 2008, and holds a B.A. in English literature from the University of California, San Diego (1998).
Larry Hardison, Information Specialist
Larry Hardison is responsible for Web content creation and management, including writing, editing, proofreading, and user support; refreshing website content on a regular schedule; publishing content using a content management system; coordinating the overall function, design, and development of the website; maintaining and improving the links database; assisting in the implementation of new website functionalities in consultation with staff and contractors; and, listserv management . Larry has experience working with databases, editing web content and providing technical assistance. Prior to joining ETR Associates, he worked as a counselor for adolescents with autism, helping to manage a group home. He holds a bachelor's degree in psychology from the University of California at Santa Cruz and joined ETR Associates in February 1998.
Erica Marsh, Resource Specialist
Erica Marsh joined ETR Associates in November 2005 and currently manages the circulation of library materials from the National Service-Learning Clearinghouse and Resource Center. She also provides reference and referral services to patrons and does much of the purchasing, processing, and shelving of library items. Prior to joining ETR Associates, Erica worked as a counselor at a residential treatment facility for the dually diagnosed population and performed a year of service as a literacy tutor through a local AmeriCorps program. She holds a bachelor’s degree in psychology from San Francisco State University and is pursuing a master’s degree in library and information science at San Jose State University.
Megan Standridge, Library Intern
Megan Standridge has served as a library intern at ETR since July 2008, and is responsible for assisting the library staff in all areas of the library operation including cataloging, reference, and collection development. Her previous experience has been in the fields of usability design and research and supplementary K-12 education. She is currently pursuing her MLIS in Library and Information Science at San Jose State University, and holds a BA in English with a minor in Spanish from the University of California at Los Angeles. Upon earning her MLIS, Megan hopes to work in a special-collection library, archive, or in policy development.
