10,000 Names in 100 Days

In partnership with MTV Voices, girltank has launched a worldwide search to find 10,000 young women who are designing powerful ideas and spearheading bold efforts to solve important challenges in their communities. The goal of #10, 000 names is to share these girls' stories, to illustrate how brilliantly and creatively young women are driving social change all across the globe. If you know an inspiring young woman, or you are one yourself, please nominate her. Entries will be accepted until May 15, 2012.

2012 Service Impact Awards

Nominate National Service Superstars for 2012 Service Impact Awards

The Corporation for National and Community Service (CNCS) announced that it is seeking nominations for the 2012 National Service Impact Awards to honor the best and brightest national service participants from around the country that are making an impact in their communities.

The Service Impact Awards provide an opportunity to examine best practices and learn about innovative programs within the national service community while recognizing the contributions made through service and volunteering.
 
Recipients will be announced and recognized at the National Conference on Volunteering and Service, June 18-20, 2012, in Chicago. This prize includes conference registration, round trip airfare, lodging, ground transportation, and a per diem.
 
Successful nominations will be from current national service members and volunteers, as well as alumni and program directors. Initiatives and programs funded through grants or subgrants from CNCS are also eligible.
 
Programs and initiatives include Senior Corps, AmeriCorps, Learn & Serve America, Social Innovation Fund, Non-profit Capacity Building Fund, Volunteer Generation Fund, MLK Day of Service, September 11th National Day of Service and Remembrance.
 
All entries should fit into one of the six focus areas: disaster services, economic opportunity, education, environmental stewardship, healthy futures, and veterans and military families.
 
Nominations within the veterans and military families category should identify one of the following focus areas: education (college school counselor programs for veterans and/or school-aged children of military members), employment (job placement and/or training programs for veterans), and wellness (behavioral health counselors for veterans and military family members, programs that engage wounded warriors, service of veterans at VA Hospitals).
 
Submissions are due May 1, 2012 at 5:00 PM EDT. All entries must be submitted through the contest page on challenge.gov at 2012serviceimpact.challenge.gov/. The site includes additional guidelines rules, and further information on the National Service Impact Awards.

Afterschool Awards

The Afterschool Awards is a nationwide contest spotlighting after school achievements for Elementary, Middle School and Junior High students. IZOD, JCPenney and NOW Music have teamed up to bring students a chance to turn their afterschool passion into cash for their future education. Students are invited to enter Afterschool Awards between now and June 25th for a chance to win up to $10,000 in scholarship money! Students can enter in up to four categories: Sports, Community Service, Science and Music & Arts to show everyone what they've got going on after the bell rings! Last year's winners were a wave-catching surfer, a fund-raising philanthropist, a star mathlete and a pop-lock dancer!

In partnership with the General Mills Foundation and other corporate sponsors, the fund provides need-based scholarships to outstanding tribal college students based on academic standing, financial need, leadership, and commitment to their communities.

Ashoka

Ashoka is a global non-profit organization that invests in individuals with unprecedented ideas for change in their communities. It does so through stipends and professional services that allow "Ashoka Fellows" to focus fulltime on their ideas for leading social change in education and youth development, health care, environment, human rights, access to technology and economic development.

Asian Pacific American Institute for Congressional Studies (APAICS)

APAICS offers several fellowship programs annually that are designed to provide opportunities to two individuals who are committed to the Asian Pacific Islander American communities, and who plan to pursue careers in public service.

AT&T CARES Youth Service Action Fund, The

The fund supports young people as they improve their communities through service on National Youth Service Day. Fifty grants are available to young people (ages 5-25) and organizations to implement service projects for National Youth Service Day.
