528 Colleges Make The President's Honor Roll!
Honor RollSix colleges and universities today received presidential recognition for extraordinary contributions to service in their communities in the second annual President’s Higher Education Community Service Honor Roll. Liz Seale, Chief Operating Officer of the Corporation for National and Community Service, announced the awards Monday, February 11 at the annual meeting of the American Council on Education.

GreenWorks! Grants Awarded!
Project Learning Tree's GreenWorks! and esurance® have awarded 19 environmental service-learning grants. The students in the following communities will design native plant gardens, restore streams and riparian habitat, construct hiking trails, start composting projects, and investigate alternative sources of energy.

2008 Spirit of Service Award Nominations!
2008 Spirit of Service AwardsThis year the awards will be presented in special ceremonies at the National Youth Leadership National service-learning Conference, April 9 – 12 in Minneapolis, MN. In addition to honoring the best Learn and Serve student, educator, and program, the best private sector partners will also be honored with a corporate award. Nominate your outstanding student, educator, and program….and corporate partner by February 10, 2008.

2008 C. Peter Magrath Engagement/Kellogg Outreach Scholarship Awards
The awards program seeks to identify colleges and universities that have redesigned their teaching, research, extension and service functions to become even more sympathetically and productively involved with their communities. Made possible by a grant from the W.K. Kellogg Foundation, the Magrath Award includes $20,000 and a trophy. The national award will be presented in November at the NASULGC Annual Meeting. The application deadline is February 25, 2008.

Millennials Talk PoliticsCollege students in the United States are hungry for political conversation that is authentic, involves diverse views and is free of manipulation and “spin,” according to a new report released today by the Center for Information & Research on Civic Learning & Engagement (CIRCLE) and The Charles F. Kettering Foundation. The report provides important clues to political candidates running for all offices about how to mobilize young voters, who by all accounts will make up a quarter of the voting population in the 2008 elections. President's Higher Education Community Service Honor Roll 2nd Annual "President's Honor Roll" is Open!
Online applications for the 2007 Honor Roll, focusing on community service by colleges, are now available on the website. The due date for applications is October 10, 2007 and covers July 2006 through June 2007. Honorees and Presidential Award winners will be announced in early 2008.

Call for Proposals to house community campus partnerships for healthThe attached Request for Proposals (RFP) lays out the strategic goals, describes the assets CCPH Board of Directors brings to the proposed partnership, specifies the characteristics wanted in an organizational home and provides details on the RFP process. Now Available, Final Report!
Learn and Serve America Higher Education (LSAHE) at the Corporation for National and Community Service (CNCS) provided funding for California Campus Compact to undertake a research project to explore community partner relationships in California. The Final Report of the findings from this research is now available.

Become a Conference Host!
Call for Proposals to host conferences Organizations and/or institutions of higher education committed to service-learning and community engagement research are encouraged to submit a proposal to serve as hosts for the 2008 and 2009 International Research Conference on Service-Learning and Community Engagement, sponsored by the International Association for Research on Service-Learning and Community Engagement. The deadline for proposals is June 15, 2007 (79K doc).


$30 Million Initiative at Duke University
Duke's new program, DukeEngage, will provide full funding and faculty and administrative support to all undergraduates who want to stretch beyond the classroom by tackling societal issues at home and abroad, and, in turn, learning from those real-world experiences. Press Release.

Segal AmeriCorps Education AwardThis web page describes the ways the Corporation for National & Community Service can support your civic mission and engage more students in making a difference in their communities. New and Improved Website
The National Forum on Higher Education for the Public Good has announced the launch of their new website. Although the address remains the same (www.thenationalforum.org), the appearance and organization have changed to make it easier to navigate.

Scholarship Opportunity!
The New England Resource Center for Higher Education (NERCHE) is now accepting nominations for the 2007 Ernest A. Lynton Award for the Scholarship of Engagement, which recognizes a faculty member who connects his or her teaching, research, and service to community engagement. The deadline for nominations is April 27, 2007.

New Community Engagement Classification
The Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement of Teaching has selected 76 US colleges and universities for a new elective community engagement classification. The classification is not based on national data; instead, institutions elected to submit documentation which described their community engagement. This allowed for basing the decision on elements that are not covered in the national data.
