 Research
 * The Community Dimension of Service-Learning: A Multi-Faceted Challenge for Researchers (66K)
  Barbara Holland, National Service-Learning Clearinghouse (2005)
    Service-learning quality relies on partnership relationships across diverse types of organizations. Multiple studies seem to present a converging view of the characteristics of effective partnerships; however, major research questions remain. Further institutionalization of service-learning depends in part on our ability to document impacts on the community. In particular, the culture of reciprocity that is integral to service-learning requires the creation of research designs that incorporate community roles, expectations, and perspectives. This session will challenge the audience to consider new directions for more systematic and objective research on: (1) the impact of service-learning on community partner organizations and community conditions, and (2) the impact of community partners on student learning and our educational institutions.
