Abstract:
This article focuses on the essential components of a civic-oriented service-learning program. If service learning is to be a method of teaching young people about their roles and responsibilities as citizens in a democratic society, then content and strategies must model and support democratic principles. This article emphasizes the content, skills, pedagogy, and structure that should inform the ways a teacher of program director designs a service learning curriculum with a view to citizenship education.
