Abstract:
During the 1995-96 school year, Learn and Serve students were involved in more than 300 distinct projects, specific effects were far reaching and well received by community organizations. A report from a national study that shows a significant, positive response on several measures of civic and educational development for students, including creativity, better grades, higher aspirations, collaboration, and critical thinking. Schools observed that service learning supported current curriculum, enhanced school-community relationships, and focused student attention and potential on many levels. Service-learning also has a positive impact on agencies receiving student help.
