Abstract:
Community service provides students with learning experiences that may be linked with classroom learning objectives. In Minnesota, this was achieved by secondary schools' sponsorship of community service learning courses. Students in these courses are assigned to varied community placements such as day care centers, hospitals, programs for the disabled and schools. Their schedules in these assignments are interspersed with classroom discussions on topics related to their community assignments. For instance, students assigned to nursing homes would be discussing diseases related to aging. (Expanded Academic ASAP)
