Abstract:

This is a comprehensive, curriculum-based, service-learning program designed to guide young people toward an exploration of issues vital to themselves and their communities. It provides core teachers with multidisciplinary lessons and activities that integrate civic participation with service-learning. In four units of eight lessons each, City Youth helps students to define their community in terms of their own lives, to analyze community needs, to learn problem-solving skills, and to participate in action projects designed to affect change in their own schools and communities.
