Abstract:
This presentation tried to answer the question, "What difference does field based education make in the lives of students?" The question is answered by focusing on (1) examining the goals commonly held for such field experiential approaches as cooperative education, academic internships, field components of classes, and service learning, then (2) discussing evidence for impact on students and finally (3) identifying critical gaps in our knowledge of how these programs affect students. Includes a draft bibliography of materials on the goals and outcomes of field based education.
