Abstract:
The editors note that because service learning is a curricular issue and is contingent on creative work of faculty to provide meaningful experiences for students, its fate is in faculty hands. Hence, the guide serves as a tool to get faculty "up to speed" in service learning by providing a definition and rationale for service learning; a course revision process to make courses more service learning ready; building of community partnerships; guides to help instill reflection; tips on student orientation, training, and monitoring; advice on assessment and evaluation of service learning; and help in faculty taking clear ownership in service learning.
