Abstract:
The authors conducted a survey of adult leaders who had successfully conducted socially-useful projects with children and youth. The chapters that follow describe how youth have served their communities throughout the world in various contexts, including public safety, civic beauty, community health, agricultural and industrial improvement, and civic arts. Examples are taken from the United States, Russia, Mexico, Denmark, China, India, Canada, Belgium, and Switzerland. The book, written in 1936, is excellent proof that service-learning is far from being either a new idea or an American phenomenon.
