This book chapter describes how the University of Pennsylvania partners with John P. Turner Middle School in the West Philadelphia Improvement Corps (WEPIC) to develop an improved social and civic environment in West Philadelphia. The Graduate School of Education, the Anthropology Department, the Penn Medical Center, along with other university departments, all contribute to the various service programs based at Turner Middle School.
