Abstract:

Loeb discusses community service in context of social change. The community service movement began as a way for youth to get involved in issues of social unrest without becoming political. Youth were taking the opportunity to feed the poor, but not work to change the system to minimize poverty. Loeb provides stories of youth who through their service realized the need to become involved in social change and therefore were led to politics.
