The Washington State Campus Compact is one of 13 state compacts encouraging regional partnerships of service. Its success is attributed to 1) a history of students and institution initiated programs, 2) presidential leadership, 3) dedicated staff, students and faculty, 4) institutional values of the integral role service and service-learning play in undergraduate and graduate education, and 5) recognition of the benefits of partnerships. Today the Washington State Campus Compact is positioned to recognize service involvement, encourage links between service and academic learning, provide information and technical assistance to member institutions, secure funds for programs and projects, in state and national areas. These strategies are possible through the collective expertise, experience and values of members and their support in building more effective community service networks.
