Abstract:
As school systems around the country begin to prepare the next generation for work in the information-age economy, technology is replacing human beings in every industry. The nation's non-profit sector-the civil society-may be the best hope for absorbing the millions of workers displaced by corporate and government reengineering. This requires rethinking our notion of politics and education to focus more on the building of social capital. Service-learning is an effective method for responding to this shift in education. (AR)
