Describes and gives examples of curriculum models being developed by many US schools in collaboration with their communities that incorporate service-learning and multicultural concepts. The cultural empowerment model uses service-learning as the foundation for exploring the cultural roots of service. Cultural mobilization engages students from diverse cultural backgrounds in meaningful community service projects to heighten multicultural understanding and encourage cooperative action. Cultural exploration combines the concepts of diversity and service-learning to increase understanding of the history and culture of one's community. Finally, the social action and change model demonstrates how service-learning can be used to change student attitudes about diversity.
