Abstract:
As a response to Ernest Boyer's "Scholarship Revisited", Schon argues that is the new scholarship is to mean anything, it must imply a kind of action research with norms of its own, which will conflict with the norms of technical rationality - the prevailing epistemology built into research universities. Using examples from MIT's Project Athena, Schon suggests the epistemological, institutional, and political issues raised by the project within the university.
