Extension is Not Just Service, But Service Learning is Important to Extension.

Simpson notes that though service is not mentioned as a necessary function of Cooperative Extension Services in land grant universities, Extension should play an important role in service-learning initiatives. Simpson defines service-learning and notes that Extension Services natural perspectives and relationships formed between higher learning and K-12 education and local communities provide for a natural link between Extension Services and service-learning.
