Abstract:
Stanton notes that service learning is more of a program emphasis than a discrete type of experiential education. Service learning is recognized by the program's structures, objectives, and processes that emphasize service to others. Stanton notes that Sigmon asserts that in service learning, those who are being served control the service that is provided, those being served become better able to serve, and those who serve are also learners (and have significant control over what is learned). He concludes that service learning is perhaps both a form of experiential education and a philosophy of experiential education. (SH)
