Abstract:
Torney-Purta defines political socialization and critical thinking, especially as they are developed during the middle school and high school years. She reports how she has used computer assisted simulations related to foreign policy to measure students' levels of political socialization. She notes that these simulations and youth service are both youth-led (in contrast to adult-led activities), are both authentic experiences that deal with real social issues, and both allow the student to try a role without making a long lasting commitment to it.
