Abstract:
National service programs today are designed by communities in response to their self-identified needs. AmeriCorps (and a parallel wave of environmental service learning programs on college campuses) can help address some of the shortcomings in our current approach to environmental problem solving by unleashing the creativity of young people to approach and solve problems creatively. This allows diverse approaches to flourish and builds a constituency of young people who understand firsthand the causes of - and solutions to -- environmental problems. (Expanded Academic ASAP)
