Abstract:

The author notes that unless college student service activities are connected to academic learning, the alliance of liberal arts, public service, and experiential learning is incomplete. Cooperative education is related to the liberal arts and public service when students are placed in field experience assignments related to their academic and career goals in opportunities related to local or federal government. The author cites Pace, Gallaudet, and American University as successful cases of integrating liberal arts, cooperative education, and public service. (SH)
