Abstract:
Wade sees three obstacles that service-learning must overcome to have realistic hopes for a long-term future. Obstacle one is that service should be an integrated part of the curriculum, not an add-on. Obstacle two is "do-gooding" or working for others rather than with others. Obstacle three is superficial service, such as cleaning a nearly immaculate park or providing other unneeded services.
