Abstract:
The author describes the work of artist Joe LaMantia in collaborative sculpture, a medium that connects a school and its community through the universal language of art. Short-term artist-in residence LaMantia and his collaborators--the entire school community--take inherently worthless materials, most of them recycled, and make something of unique and striking beauty that reflects school themes. LaMantia's collaborative process is described from cost to conception, project design, and construction.
