Abstract:

Peace Games builds on a 10-week core curriculum that focuses on communication, cooperation, conflict resolution and engagement to address the problem of school violence. The curriculum works to teach children the knowledge and skills they need to become peacemakers rather than bullies or victims of bullying. The Peace Games mission is to support young people as peacemakers by linking community volunteers with students, schools and families. The program works with young people in elementary and middle schools, as well as high school alumnae and young adults who are recruited, trained and supported as volunteers. Intergenerational activities link three or four generations. Teaching teams help students plan and implement service-learning activities called Peacemaker Projects.
