Abstract:
Part of a special section on service learning in political science. The writers examine the implications of service learning for college political science teaching and research. They review analyses to determine the theoretical context for service learning and to ascertain what students are expected to gain from it. In addition, they consider what distinguishes service learning from other forms of service. Furthermore, they outline what research has indicated to be the most effective service learning programs. Finally, they consider the dilemmas posed by service learning for political scientists.
