This training manual/resource book focuses on integrating service-learning and Catholic Social Teaching. Components of this guide have been used at two training events - one for high school teachers in the Archdiocese of Los Angeles, another at Loyola Marymount University for high school Campus Ministers. The purpose of this guide is to demonstrate how service-learning can be used as a powerful instructional strategy to teach core academic content and also to provide a powerful and authentic vehicle for the incorporation of Catholic Social Teaching across content areas. The guide is divided into the following units: Introduction to Catholic Social Teaching, Introduction to Service-Learning, Project Planning - Connecting Catholic Social Teaching, Service and Standards, Reflecting on Service/Prayer, and Faithful Citizenship - Service-Learning and Civic Responsibility. The elements in this guide may be used to meet the needs of a "three hour" workshop, a "full-day" in-service, or a week-long institute. (author)
