Abstract:
Because researchers from different disciplines ascribe to different norms for research, the multidisciplinary nature of service-learning has made it difficult to establish a set of norms for service-learning research. The National Research Council's principles for scientific inquiry provide a foundation for guiding scientific research in all disciplines. The authors suggest that by applying these principles to the study of service-learning, the quality of service-learning research can be improved and norms for service-learning research can be established.
