Abstract:
This chapter provides a brief overview of the context for student affairs-academic affairs partnerships. The author proposes a partnership framework for carefully examining how faculty and student affairs professionals work together, as well as dimensions that are valuable to consider in analyzing the potential sustainability of a partnership. Also discussed are three types of service-learning partnerships between student affairs and faculty - clearinghouse, cooperative, and collaborative. Finally, Engstrom argues that only partnerships that demonstrate characteristics of collaboration have the power to transform our institutions into learning-centered organizations.
