The purpose of this book is to illustrate how community service-learning is one vehicle for achieving the goals of education and youth development, and concurrently, how it is highly consistent with the goals of "systematic educational reform". The intended audiences are policy makers at all levels who are seeking effective educational policies and programs for accomplishing both education and social reform, local administrators who are attempting to make decisions regarding their degree of support for service-learning, and teachers and coordinators of service-learning initiatives who are becoming more involved in relevant policy decision that often have a direct effect on the school environment and the curriculum.
