Abstract:
The authors describe their experiences with the University of Texas-Pan American Office of Center Operations and Community Services (CoSERVE). They explain the University's civic role in the community, the dual purpose of citizenry (benefiting both the student and the community) and give examples of partnerships that have been successful for CoSERVE. The features of these partnerships are examined, as well as the impact of institutional involvement in the community. The authors conclude by describing their impetus for civic duty within the context of a university.
