Abstract:
As President Emeritus of the University of Pennsylvania, the author describes the creation and development of a community program to rebuild West Philadelphia's social and economic capacity. The terms of the engagement are outlined, and the development of the neighborhood is described. Rodin notes that the creation of a new public school was a centerpiece of the plan, transforming both the University and the neighborhood that it set out to improve.
