Abstract:
This article examines the role of schools, faith-based organizations, youth-serving organizations, and other community programs in developing the personal and social "assets" to promote youth development. The benefits that national and community service programs provide are explored, including expanded staffing of after-school programs, available tutoring where needed, recruitment of other community members to volunteer with youth, and development of lifelong advocates for positive youth policies.
