Abstract:
This article looks at after-school programs for urban Native-American youth in Portland, Oregon. The shared experiences of these students who meet at the local Native American Youth Association (NAYA) after school help them to address academic challenges together, according to the author. The combination of mentoring and shared cultural experiences that can be found at NAYA is beneficial to the students' academic development, concludes McCluskey.
