Abstract:
The author looked at several professions in detail through intensive interviews with practitioners based on the following question: how do individuals who want to do good work - work that is both excellent and socially responsible - succeed or fail at a time when conditions are changing with enormous speed, market forces have unprecedented power, and few, if any , counter forces can mediate the powers of the market? In exploring the question, the author looks at factors that facilitate good work, and links to service-learning. (pages 23-28)
