Abstract:
This article describes some of the definitions and characterizations that have been applied to service-learning. It identifies a typology that is helpful in establishing criteria for distinguishing service-learning from other types of service programs. The other types of service programs are described (such as community service, volunteerism, field education, and internships) in relation to service-learning.
