Abstract:
Amidst national public pressure for United States public schools to better prepare students to be critical thinkers and effective problem solvers in a competitive global economy, many schools have adopted school-to-work, community service, and service learning programs. Proponents state value of forming such partnerships, while opponents argue that such practices are undue burdens on the curriculum. Four articles are included in the series, "Academics and life," "No Wonder Johnny Can't Read," "All Students can Serve," and "Community Problem-Solving 101".
