Girl Scouts Beyond Bars is a partnership between Girl Scouts of the USA and correctional departments across the country to respond to the needs of girls whose mothers are incarcerated. This program led the way to Girl Scouting in Detention Centers, a program that reaches girls who have been adjudicated, are wards of the court, or are court-referred delinquents. The Roots & Wings Tool Kit is designed for Girl Scout special project coordinators, membership directors, and all designated GSBB/GSDC program facilitators who are delivering a GSBB/GSDC program, and/or seeking to enhance a current program. Items in the tool kit include: 2 CD-ROMs, 'Beyond Bars: Connecting Incarcerated Mothers and Their Daughters' and 'Girl Scouting in Detention Centers: Leaving No Girls Behind'; 'Beyond Bars...A Curriculum for Life: Building Resilience Through Life Skills Development', a life skills activity booklet; 'Serving from the Heart: Best Practices in Volunteer Recruitment and Development', a GSBB volunteer recruitment and cultivation strategy guidebook; and 'Troop 1500', a DVD focusing on the stories of Girl Scouts-Lone Star Council's GSBB program participants.
