Abstract:

This research attempted to evaluate the impact of using a service learning methodology in the training of students in a Health Science class. The purpose of this study was to identify the changes in knowledge, attitudes, and skills of students in a community health course under the modality of service learning. In general, the results of this service learning experience were very positive for students and participating organizations. Changes in knowledge, attitudes, and skills among students were documented by the frequency counts but these changes were not statistically significant for all the items, except for the question related to the development of new skills. The qualitative responses clearly indicated an improvement in students' knowledge, attitudes, and skills related to service learning and community health. (author)
