Abstract:
This article examines how preservice elementary teachers can experience authentic laboratory practice and confront personal beliefs and attitudes that infringe on successful teaching. Elementary teacher educators have the responsibility to promote the role of science and science education within the preservice teaching community. These educators must emphasize the importance of science curriculum and instructional strategies in an effort to overcome environmental and attitudinal barriers. (author)
