Abstract:
The research on service-learning pedagogy for students with disabilities shows an emerging need for more studies of the impact of service-learning activities with respect to the retention of students with disabilities, particularly those who are also African American. The authors suggest that one role that university faculty can take is to create, implement, and evaluate service-learning programs in urban communities that incorporate students, adults with disabilities, the local public school k-12, and teacher educators and researchers from nearby colleges and universities.
