Abstract:

Teen pregnancy remains an important problem in this country. Almost 900,000 teenagers become pregnant each year, the large majority of them unintentionally. And these pregnancies have substantial effects upon these teenagers, the infants born to them, and society in general.

This volume describes a variety of youth development and after-school programs that may help reduce teen pregnancy. It integrates a youth development approach, a logic model approach to selecting and designing programs, research on both the causes of teen pregnancy and the effectiveness of past programs, and especially the experience and insights of people who have designed and implemented programs.
