This chapter describes one successful P-12 pre-service teacher education service-learning partnership, the Student Coalition for Strengthening Communities (SCSC), which involves high school students, teachers, and administrators, working alongside pre-service teachers, teacher education faculty, and other community members. This collaborative service-learning initiative is designed to strengthen communities by helping high school students enhance their commitment to working for social justice while gaining the knowledge and skills needed to do this successfully. At the same time, pre-service teachers involved with this project gain the expertise and experience needed to implement service-learning with their future P-12 students. (authors)
