This article profiles three of eleven projects funded by Learn and Serve America in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina. Students from Northern Kentucky University "used communication principles and practices to help three Mississippi Gulf Coast communities collect oral narratives after the crisis, help community members explore the support they could offer to each other, help administrators understand the organizational culture of one at-risk school district, and perform other projects relevant to interaction and understanding after Katrina." Projects profiled include collecting video narratives from residents, teaching basic media production skills, planning and carrying out a town hall meeting, and conducting an after-school program at a local elementary school.
