Abstract:

This chapter explores the question, "Who is served by service learning?" The authors discuss the practice of service-learning by tens of thousands of college students who complete projects or participate in programs to fulfill university requirements. They also explore the paucity of research done on community reactions to service-learning-- the small amount of research done concludes that community organizations are relatively satisfied, but use only superficial measures. The authors go on to propose a way of listening to these "unheard voices," as well as their findings.
