Abstract:

Service learning in the English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) classroom serves two purposes, to fulfill the language-learning needs of the students and help students overcome some of the common problems they face as learners. ESOL students are often on the receiving end of community services. At the Albany County Campus of Laramie County Community College in Laramie, Wyoming, the tables are being turned, and the students are encouraged to provide services to their American community. Along the way, their language skills improve, and they learn valuable cultural lessons. (author)
