Abstract:
This article discusses the value and growth of service-learning, pointing to the Serve America Act that was signed by President Obama in April 2009 as a sign that more schools and youth will gain much by heeding the call to service. Providing examples from schools in New York, Texas, Utah, Louisiana, Florida, and Illinois, the article goes on to describe what service-learning looks like; establishing a solid foundation for service-learning, the five steps of service-learning, and staff development are also examined.
