In this implementation research project, the authors document practices that promote engaged scholarship at 25 research-extensive universities and offer a model of a system of supports for engaged scholarship. Using web-based research and qualitative methods, the authors employed a thematic analysis to place practices into a matrix and provide current examples of support for engagement activities. Future research, including a large number of campuses and more varied data sources, is recommended to describe growth in the support of engaged scholarship at research-extensive universities. Finally, the authors call for creation of a national clearinghouse of best practices in supportive policies, programs, and activities. (authors)
