Abstract:

The reflection process can require extensive in-class time for introspection and discussion, placing time demands on course instructors because of the need for feedback. This additional effort can make service-learning seem both daunting and overly time-consuming. The use of eLearning pedagogies for team discussion, reflection, and feedback can address both of these concerns. Specifically, discussion boards can serve as an effective tool for facilitating the feedback process at both the individual and team level. This chapter explores one facet of the integration of eLearning and service-learning pedagogies: the use of online discussion boards as tools for reflective writing and as sources of collaborative learning and peer feedback. Chapter from Service-eLearning: Educating for Citizenship.
